A friend of mine bought Mia a subscription to Green Craft Kids. This was such a great gift and Mia was so excited to get a box in the mail.
This box was Wacky Water Science and came with three activities, all the materials needed, fun hydrology facts and a sticker when all the activities were complete that said Hydrology Expert!
We did the Absorption and Color Science Experiment and it was pretty cool for little eyes to see. After a 45 minute duration.
First, we put the three cups next to one another. And put a blue tablet in the right cup and a yellow tablet in the left cup. The middle one had nothing in it.
We filled the two outer cups with tablets in them with water and then stirred.
** Try this at home but try using blue and yellow food coloring instead of the tablets.**
Next, we took two paper towels and separately folded each towel lengthwise. And placed them in cups. (shown below)
Over a 30 minute period this is what happened:
The blue and yellow were absorbing into the towel and meeting in the middle cup. So far the water in the center was more of an aqua blue.
Then after 45 minutes:
We got the color green. Mia now knows blue and yellow make green. And she saw it happen before her eyes.
The experiment took a while but I was happy with the end result.
Mia was excited to go back and check the cups every few minutes to see if it did anything yet.
Green Craft Kids is a great idea and I did enjoy that it focused on science. I love science and want my kids to love it just as much as I do. This box we received focused on Hydrology and it was fun telling Mia even at 3 years old all the fun facts about water and the water cycle. The three projects came with everything you needed to do the project which was great. We look forward to another box in the mail. So far I will give Green Craft Kids an 8 out of 10 rating for little kids and 9 out of 10 rating for kids ages 5 and up. I recommend giving it a try and seeing what you think.
