The reviews are in and the Autism Friendly Big Apple Circus Show was a hit! On June 2nd Momee Friends was lucky enough to go to the first Autism Friendly Show put on by the always family friendly and entertaining Big Apple Circus.
The staff were super friendly and the not so scary clowns handed out squishy red foam balls on the way in. (1 per child). The balls were both a visual and tactile sensory object which encouraged the children to relax.
As you can see Messina put it in front of her nose like the clowns for the picture which was a super cute idea.
The show in its usual length is amazing and the shortened version was no different. For this show the length of the production was only 75 minutes long to keep the families happy and make sure that the children did not get too restless.
Just like the circus promised there were no strobe lights, it was not dark and the volume level was perfect (not too loud at all).
There were signs clearly displayed for the calming areas if the need should arise and there were volunteers in every section.
