December Story Time at Sweetbriar Nature Center

We had a great Interactive Story Time at Sweetbriar Nature Center yesterday. We read The Mitten by Jan Brett and did a craft and song related to the book.

Before, we read the story we had the children color their mittens and/ or glue festive tissue paper to the front of the mitten. This was a great sensory craft for the kids to do and my daughter loved crunching the tissue paper and gluing it down to the paper. I think they came out great.

We also had a print out of the animals from the story on a sheet of paper for the kids to color and cut out. They were then able to glue them to their craft sticks and use them for when we read the story.

We found the Mitten printable and The Mitten Animals printable out on Pinterest.

When Ms. Ann read the story the children were able to put the animals in The Mitten. It was a great way for the kids to engage and be part of the story. They seemed to enjoy it and they learned animals that are not the most familiar like a porcupine, badger and mole.

After the story we headed upstairs to the rainforest in Sweetbriar and did a fun song related to the book. The song was another awesome Pinterest find. The Mitten song was easy to remember and was sung to the tune of The Farmer in the Dell. The song was super interactive as the kids moved like the animals we talked about in the book.

We had a great time at our Interactive Story Time and we hope you and your children can join us for our next Momee Friends Story Time.
