I know, I know what you are thinking. How could Black Bean Brownies be any good?
Well, I have to tell you something this healthier dessert is my new favorite and I guarantee your kids will love it, too! (But, you do not have to tell them there is black beans in it, unless you want to)
I was on Pinterest (It is one of my favorite Momee downtime things to scroll through), I love getting inspired by what others do and make something I see my own. I never feel like you have to follow something to the exact ingredients and/ or steps to have a successful recipe or craft idea. And, I rarely will leave my house for an ingredient that is in a recipe if I have something I can substitute in its place. For instance, in this recipe we use Black Beans instead of flour. A healthier option that tastes so good.
Ingredients:
These are the ingredients I used in my brownies that tasted incredible.
-
1 1/2 cups black beans (1 15-oz can, drained and rinsed very well)
-
2 tbsp cocao powder
-
1/2 cup quick oats
-
1/4 tsp salt
-
1/3 cup pure maple syrup
-
2 tbsp blonde coconut sugar
-
2 tsp pure vanilla extract
-
1/2 tsp baking powder
-
1/2 cup of chocolate chips (maybe a little more- if you choose) : )
*So, I was so excited to get these made and I forgot the 1/4 cup coconut or vegetable oil that the recipe called for and I personally do not think it needs it. But, you can use it if you want.*
The link below has great substitution ideas. Such as you can “omit the 2 tbsp sugar or increase maple syrup to 1/2 cup”.

Directions:
Before you event start your recipe I suggest to preheat your oven to 350 F.
Combine all ingredients except chips in a good food processor, and blend until completely smooth.
Put parchment paper on your pan and then use a spatula to smooth the brownie mix out into a rectangular shape.
Top with chocolate chips. I had these huge dark chocolate morsels and they are delicious!
I baked the Black Bean Brownies for about 20 minutes in the 350 degree F oven and used the toothpick test to make sure they were fully cooked. And they were done. Let stand for 10 minutes and then serve.
My older daughter is such a picky eater and she loves these and ate them a lot quicker than a regular brownie. They do not taste like healthy brownies and are 6 year old approved! But, shhh! I did not tell her there is black beans in the recipe.
