Cradle of Aviation Museum- Garden City

Have you ever been to the Cradle of Aviation in Garden City?

It is one of Long Island’s amazing museums and has some great interactive exhibits for the entire family to enjoy.

Have you been?

When you arrive at the museum you will see a huge U.S. Navy Fighter Jet hanging from the ceiling and you will be greeted by friendly staff members.

A great photo opportunity for you to capture is your child(ren) in the helicopter located in the main entrance. This seems to be one place the kids love to take a picture and pretend they are flying the smallest helicopter (single seat) ever built by Jim Hepp from Glen Cove, Long Island.

Junior Jet Club

On the lower level right near the entrance is the Junior Jet Club geared towards children up to the age of 6. Not only is this a great interactive space for kids to enjoy it is a play area that your child would not get to play in anywhere else.

There are some great area for kids to explore and use their imagination. Where will they fly? Will they fly an airplane or a space shuttle? A great place for parents with little ones to visit and have their eyes on the kids at all times.

The kids are encouraged to build, touch, jump and play in this great play space.

“The Junior Jet Club is included with museum admission or you can enjoy it without the rest of the museum for only $2.50 per person. The cheapest play-date in town!”

Planetarium & Dome Theatre

Planetarium

The JetBlue Sky Theater planetarium is also located on the lower level and is a beautiful theatre that sits 300 people. There are shows available for families with children of all ages to enjoy and experience inside this virtual reality dome.

Exhibits

“Explore over 150,000 square feet featuring 75 air and spacecraft from a hot air balloon to an actual Apollo Lunar Module and learn about Long Island’s role and why we are called the Cradle of Aviation. Our eight exhibit galleries are in chronological order and throughout the museum our volunteer docents are there to share their aerospace experience. There are over 30 hands-on exhibits, a half dozen cockpits to climb into and many short films through-out the exhibits.”

I encourage you to speak to the docent volunteers in the blue denim shirts who can explain what you are looking at throughout the museum with more passion and excitement better than anyone else because they are able to share their aerospace experiences with you.

Your kids will LOVE all the things they can touch and play with in our very own Cradle of Aviation Museum on Long Island! You will love spending the day here and enjoying all it has to offer.

Would you like to eat on Mars?

If you get hungry there is a great place to eat called the Red Planet Cafe. Even though you will not really be on the red planet there will be plenty to look at when you dine, just look up. Your family will enjoy eating on Mars in a cafeteria type dining area that has healthy options to eat as well as your typical burger, chicken and fries.
