The Smith Point Light Show returns for 2020

Making Seasons Bright
Annual Light Show Benefitting Girl Scouts of Suffolk County Returns to Smith Point County Park

“Girl Scouts of Suffolk County (GSSC) and County Executive Steve Bellone are pleased to announce that the 17th Annual Smith Point Light Show will return to Smith Point County Park in Shirley. The drive-thru event, which features more than a mile of illuminated holiday-themed displays, will officially return from December 1 through December 30. In addition to being a favorite holiday attraction among families, the seasonal event serves as an important fundraiser for Girl Scouts of Suffolk County.”

“The Smith Point Light Show is one of our biggest events each year, and we know this event is more important than ever,” says Pamela Mastrota, Chief Executive Officer and President of Girl Scouts of Suffolk County. “Families are looking for safe, socially distanced entertainment options, and we are delighted to be able to continue this holiday tradition. Like so many nonprofits and businesses, we have been negatively impacted by the pandemic, and the Smith Point Light Show remains a strong source of fundraising for our Girl Scouts. Proceeds benefit girl leadership programs as well as provide financial assistance for girls to join Girl Scouting and attend our summer camp program.”

Since outgrowing its space at Camp Edey, Bayport, in 2016, the fundraising event has been held at Smith Point County Park. The light displays are assembled and built, in part, by GSSC staff and dedicated volunteers from PSEG Long Island, International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 1049 and Local 25, and the Long Island Chapter of the National Electrical Contractors Association.

“The annual light show is an entertaining spectacle that brings our residents and visitors together for a great cause during the holiday season,” said County Executive Bellone. “We are proud to once again partner with the Girl Scouts of Suffolk County to host the light show at the Smith Point County Park, that welcomed nearly 50,000 guests last year in support of the countless enrichment initiatives and services that the Girl Scouts provide.”
