This January there is some great events happening at the Long Island Music and Entertainment Hall of Fame in Stony Brook.
January 11th:
Long Island Teachers are invited to join TeachRock Ambassador Stephanie Arnell for a free evening workshop featuring TeachRock’s MLK and Black History Month Lessons starting at 6pm at the Long Island Music and Entertainment Hall of Fame. This TeachRock PD, presented in partnership with LIMEHOF, will cover TeachRock’s outstanding teaching resources for the upcoming MLK Holiday and Black History Month. Participants can expect to have their hearts filled with great music and their minds filled with wonderful lessons to share with their students!
Stevie Van Zandt’s TeachRock’s free, open source lessons utilize popular music of all eras and genres to access academic content. January 14th:
Joe Piket and the Storm will be performing LIVE music at the Long Island Music and Entertainment Hall of Fame in Stony Brook Village (97 Main Street, Stony Brook, NY) on January 14th from 3-4pm.
The event is free with general admission ticket purchase.

January 20th:

Heart & Soul: a Love Story takes us on an intimate journey of the artists and the impact of Doo-Wop, the vocal harmony masterpieces of teenage artists from the 1950s and 60s, fast fading from history, that formed the bridge to today’s popular music and youth culture. Much of the footage is verité, shot on the scene over the decades, by multi-platinum singer/musician and debut director, Kenny Vance. His film shows how these young, diverse street artists—his friends and fellow performers broke new ground, creating harmony by singing as one, and ultimately changing the course of music and culture.
As a teenage co-founder of the iconic Sixties pop group, Jay & the Americans, Vance shared the stories and lives of the community of artists in this film. Viewers will hear the story of the music and the makers in their own words.
January 21st:
Simple Days will be performing LIVE music on January 21st from 3-4pm.

Simple Days is a suburban Long Island music duo featuring Dusty Bowl and LoriAnn Lennon. Performances showcase Dusty’s unique lyrical perspective as heard in his original songwriting, which will hopefully tickle your ear and allow you to ponder. Dusty and LoriAnn mix it up by switching lead and harmony vocals, and guitar and bass playing. January 27th:
Saturday January 27 at 7pm, Screening of Jackie Martling’s Joke Man with Q&A with Jackie Martling. Tickets for adults are $35 for the screening and the Q&A, which also includes admission to our entire Hall of Fame/Museum.

His savant-like ability to remember every joke he’s heard since he was eight years old, combined with his lightning-fast wit and infectious laugh, helped establish him as a comedy icon. Famous for being the head writer of the Howard Stern show for 15 years and infamous for leaving that position, Jackie’s story is fascinating, funny, and heartwarming. In an age of political correctness, Jackie “The Joke Man” Martling helps us belly-laugh at ourselves with kindness and sincerity that defuses his unfiltered punch lines.
In this feature documentary we learn Jackie’s improbable story, from the fledgling days of comedy on Long Island, through his time as one of the “Beatles of Radio”, to his success as an author and actor. Willie Nelson, Penn Jillette, Billy West, Artie Lang, Marc Cuban, Sean Young and a bunch of former Stern show staffers give us their take on what makes him truly unique.
