Red White & Blue Star Sugar Cookies

I wanted to bring a treat that was Memorial Day inspired to our family gathering this Memorial Day

I thought sugar cookie stars would be appropriate with red crystals and blue frosting

I used the recipe from the Food Network to make my sugar cookies but instead of the milk that Alton Brown suggests in his recipe; I used Vanilla Almond Milk that made a nice flavor addition to the cookie. I am a Silk Almond Milk fan and I do not even use regular milk anymore. It is so delicious.

Ingredients

Steps to follow according to Sugar Cookies Recipe courtesy Alton Brown

Sift together flour, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.

Place butter and sugar in large bowl of electric stand mixer and beat until light in color. Add egg and milk and beat to combine. Put mixer on low speed, gradually add flour, and beat until mixture pulls away from the side of the bowl.

Divide the dough in half, wrap in waxed paper, and refrigerate for 2 hours.

Preheat oven to 375 degrees F.

Sprinkle surface where you will roll out dough with powdered sugar.

I rolled out the dough and then got my star cookie cutter and bean to cut my cookies out of this delicious sugar cookie dough

Once I put my cookies in the oven, I set the timer for 5 minutes and then added my red crystals to the cookies

Then I let them cook for an additional 5 minutes and the cookies were all ready to be decorated!

I mixed together blue food coloring and vanilla frosting to trim the outside of the star cookies with

Enjoy your cookies… What festive dessert are you making this Memorial Day?
