There is no scientific evidence that supports an increase in milk production after eating lactation cookies. However, if you are looking for a delicious recipe to try, I highly recommend these Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Lactation Cookies by Noel Trujillo.
One of my best friends recommended this recipe and I have to say everyone in my family is loving them. One of my daughter’s made me laugh and before trying them she asked if it was going to make her produce milk. I laughed and said absolutely not, these cookies are supposed to only help a breastfeeding Mom produce milk not anyone else in the family. Once my daughter’s and husband tried them, they were hooked too.
We are a Melaleuca family and this recipe called for 3 cups of flour. I substituted one of the three cups of flour with 3 scoops of FiberWise All Purpose and 2 scoops of Proflex Protein Vanilla Powder . It didn’t effect the taste at all and now we have more protein and fiber inside of these delicious cookies.

I believe what you put in your body makes a difference and even though there is no scientific evidence to prove that these cookies help with milk production, I can tell you they are delicious and from one breastfeeding Mom to another, we all know that we get hungry and sometimes get cravings for something delicious. So, what is the harm in making these delcious cookies and enjoying them with the hope that they will be helping with producing more milk for your baby? There is no harm and the hardest part is not eating more than 2 to 3 of these a day. We are a family of 5 (technically 4 who can eat the cookies right now since the baby can not eat them) and this recipe makes a great amount of cookies. You can save them in an air tight sealed container and I have eaten them over days with my family and they stayed good for quite a few days.
“How Do Lactation Cookies Work? Lactation cookies are made with special ingredients called galactagogues which are intended to help increase a mother’s milk supply. These galactagogues may include herbal ingredients such as garlic, fenugreek, brewer’s yeast, flaxseed, or oats.” These cookies have brewer’s yeast , flaxseed meal and oats in them. So, see for yourself if they help you with your milk production.
Let me know in the comments below what you thought of these cookies and if you feel that Lactation Cookies have helped you with your milk production. I know I am soaking up all of these baby snuggles after my daughter’s belly is full after some Mommy Milk.
