THE LONG ISLAND MUSEUM’S BOOK FAIR RETURNS ON SEPTEMBER 19th and 20th

This Year’s “Pages & Pictures: LIM’s Annual Book and Art Fair” Event Also Features Original Art Sale, Live Music, and Free Admission to all Museum Exhibitions

The Long Island Museum will be holding its second annual Book Fair this Saturday, September 19th – and this year, the Museum is getting ready for an even bigger second chapter.  As a result of the incredible community support and enthusiasm for last year’s event, the Museum is expanding the experience to also include a special Art Sale as well as featuring live musical entertainment – while also offering attendees the opportunity to spend a day exploring the Museum’s History Museum, Art Museum, and renowned Carriage Museum with complimentary admission to all exhibitions. 

“Pages & Pictures: LIM’s Annual Book and Art Fair” will take place on Saturday, September 19th from 1 p.m. – 4 p.m. The Long Island Museum, located at 1200 Route 25A in Stony Brook.  The event will feature a vast selection of gently-used books generously donated from book-lovers throughout Long Island eager to give their books new homes, with countless treasures and bargains just waiting to be discovered.  Attendees will also have the opportunity to explore a unique Art Sale at the Museum, featuring original works by talented local artists from the LIMarts community – a collaborative arts group founded by The Long Island Museum to foster and engage a community of visual artists and artisans.  The day will feature a live musical performance by special guests, acoustic duo 2Steps – combining vocals, guitar, kick drum, and keyboards to create a repertoire that blends folk and pop influences.

Thanks to the incredible generosity of the local community, the Long Island Museum received even more book donations than last year (which means even more great reads to choose from!)  Due to the overwhelming response, they are extending the book sale to Sunday, September 20, from 1:00–3:00 p.m. Please note: there will not be complimentary admission to the Museum’s exhibitions – but admission to the book fair and grounds remains free on Sunday.

“Last year’s inaugural Book Fair was a wonderful community event, bringing together more than 300 book-lovers throughout Long Island for a day celebrating and promoting the love of reading and literacy, while raising funds to help support the Museum’s educational programming,” said Lynn Adler, Education and Community Programs Coordinator at The Long Island Museum.  “This year, not only will attendees find a tremendous collection of literary treasures at the event, but our Art Sale will also offer them the opportunity to view and purchase a wide array of beautiful artwork created by local artists – so whether you’re an experienced collector or looking for your first piece of original artwork, you’ll find some truly special artwork here that will be available at a range of prices.”

Most books will be priced at $4 or less, with special bundle deals available.  The event will feature an extensive children’s books section, as well as a “Special Books” section with individually priced books, and will offer a wide range of books across many different categories and genres – including Classics, Cookbooks, Crafts & Hobbies, Fiction, Gardening & Nature, History, Self-Help, Sports, Travel, and more. Proceeds of the LIM Book Fair and Art Sale benefit the Museum’s educational programming and exhibitions, and book donations are tax-deductible to the fullest extent allowed by law.

Attendees at the “Pages and Pictures” event will also be treated to complimentary admission to LIM’s three museums and their exhibitions, as well as fun activities available for kids of all ages.  The LIM History Museum currently features two separate exhibitions – Long Island in the ’70s and The Seat of Action: Long Island in the American Revolution and Beyond – and the LIM Art Museum has just opened its latest exhibition: Enduring Heart: Native American Long Island.  In addition, visitors will have the opportunity to enjoy LIM’s renowned Carriage Museum, which includes eight galleries that tell the story of transportation before the automobile – as well as stroll the Museum’s beautiful 9-acre campus filled with art installations, a fountain garden and historic buildings, including a one-room schoolhouse.
