Oh how I love this song and it brings back so many amazing childhood memories for me. “Skinnamarinky dinky dink Skinnamarinky do,
I love you!”
You know the lyrics and once you start singing it, I am sure a big smile will be on your face as the lyrics warm your heart. To celebrate over 40 years of singing their beloved signature song, “Skinnamarink,” on TV, in recordings, and at thousands of live performances, iconic children’s musicians Sharon & Bram will release an all-new version of the song, titled “Skinnamarinky Two,” available now.
Distinguishing itself with a new introductory verse and additional lyrics by Sharon’s daughter, Randi Hampson, “Skinnamarinky Two” also serves as a tribute to the late Lois Lilienstein, who was, for 20 years, Sharon & Bram’s performing partner in the trio Sharon, Lois & Bram. It was Lois who introduced “Skinnamarink” to Sharon & Bram when they were gathering tunes for their first album. The trio performed it in their very first public concert in 1978 and went on to close all of their concerts with the song.
“Skinnamarink” is one of those melodies that has found a place in the hearts of families the world over, even in countries where English is not the primary language. “Imagine — ‘skinnamarink’ might be someone’s first English word!” declares Sharon Hampson with a twinkle in her eye. The song closed each episode of Sharon, Lois & Bram’s top-rated children’s television shows The Elephant Show on Nickelodeon and Skinnamarink TV on TLC. To date, over 18 million people have viewed The Elephant Show’s “Skinnamarink” on YouTube. There is no doubt that, as the years go by, this song will continue to symbolize the very best of humanity: friendship, joy, and love.
“What does “skinnamarink” mean? You may not find its definition in a dictionary, but the meaning is clear to the generations of children who sang along: friendship, happiness, sharing, community and, ultimately, love. This song has been sung in weddings and in classrooms. It can be fun and silly – especially with the accompanying actions! And it has a way of bringing people together.” …Read more
