Sock Penguins

We love penguins and this craft is simple to do and fun for kids and adults to complete together.

The penguins are made out of black crew socks that we filled with dry pinto beans and decorated with felt. I used Googley Eyes for my penguin and the girls used felt to make their eyes. See full directions below.

Please note: *I used the hot glue gun not the girls* Adults should use the hot glue gun and help with this part of the craft since you can easily get burned using a hot glue gun.

Items needed are:

Black Crew Sock (got mine at the dollar tree)

Dry Pinto Beans

Felt (white, black, yellow, orange and any other color if you want to add a scarf or hat)

Googly Eyes

Hot Glue Gun

Rubber Band

Directions:

First, you will want to get your supplies for filling the sock together. Have your scissors, rubber band, dry pinto beans and sock ready. I cut the top of the crew sock off as shown below. It made it easier to fill the sock and you don’t need that part of the sock. Fill the sock to desired height. I left some space at the top so you can tie the top together with a rubber band. I think leaving a little at the top makes it look like the penguin has a little hair on top of his or her head.

I used some of the remaining sock to make wings for the penguin. The material folded nicely from the sock and I like how they turned out.

Next, I let the girls cut the beak, eyes, feet and any accessories they wanted to make for their penguins out of the felt. You can make the beak and feet orange or yellow. I used googley eyes for my penguin but, the girls made theirs out of felt.

Again, *I used the hot glue gun not the girls* to attach the wings to the body of the penguin and the other felt pieces. Adults should use the hot glue gun and help with this part of the craft since you can easily get burned using a hot glue gun.

I truly love how the penguins turned out and the girls love their penguin and have them displayed in their rooms. This is such a cute craft for the winter or to make for someone who loves penguins.
