Hopefully as soon as possible, seeing as Christmas is a very expensive and significant time of the year! But we know that’s not realistic for many families; you’ve got work to do, kids to take care of, and other occasions to celebrate. However, if you leave the planning until after Halloween, you can feel rushed, stressed, and like you’ve forgotten everything!

Let’s beat those feelings this year. Instead of starting too soon or too late, make sure your Christmas planning ordeal starts when you need it to. Whatever it is you want to do this year – whatever way you want to celebrate or whatever gifts you’d like to buy – give yourself enough time to get things done by asking the questions below.

How Old are Your Children?

Take your child’s age and half it – that’s the amount of months to plan in advance, up until about the age of twelve. As a general guide, this means you’ll only need half a month for a one year old, one month for a two year old, five months for a ten year old, and so on.

This way you’ll get the right jump on the latest age appropriate kids’ toys and games, as well as newly released kid friendly gadgets. Gifts for older kids will still need a bit of time and attention, but if your child is under the age of twelve, get that Christmas list written early

Are There Any Sales on Right Now?

If there is, feel free to grab a few bargains in departments like kids’ toys, clothing, beauty, and gadgets. Even if you don’t strictly need to start worrying about Christmas for a little while yet, never let a good sale go uninvestigated! It’ll save you a lot of money in the long run.

Of course, don’t let yourself go wild with sale items, as you could end up spending more than you really meant to. Just get the essentials here, as you don’t have to worry too much about things like the price of Christmas entertainment. Holiday movies, shows, and songs can be watched or listened to from the moment you sign up to a streaming service.

No worries there, but you can then save yourself some money by only subscribing to the platform that has the most media available.

Will You Be Heading Anywhere?

If you want to go away for Christmas this year, get a good deal on your accommodation by booking ASAP. It’s still going to be expensive, as any hotel or AirBnB will be during the early winter season, but you won’t pay the premium prices that those booking in late November will. And seeing as airline tickets get released around a year in advance, you’ll be able to book travel for your Christmas trip at your leisure!

Make your Christmas plans at a time that suit you. If that means starting in July, so be it! Take your kids’ ages into account and watch out for sales.
