Simple Home Adjustments for a Healthier Living Environment

As time goes on, the importance of keeping a healthy home becomes more of a focus for any family. We’re perpetually hearing about potential minor health hazards which, over time, can make wellness a more critical focus. The good news is that with some simple home adjustments, you can eliminate many of the small infringements on your health.

Air purifiers and filters

The last few years have made it clear just how important the air we breathe can be. Even though the days of pandemic preparedness are mainly behind us, it’s still a good idea to be proactive in ensuring that the air in our homes is clean and as free of unwelcome particles as possible. A good domestic HVAC system will do a lot of the work; this is of particular importance if anyone in your home has asthma or another respiratory condition, and can be beneficial for anyone who has an intolerance to airborne pollen.

Home air purifiers are also a good idea. For rooms which are prone to humidity in particular – such as the kitchen – a portable purifying unit can be worth its weight in gold. Consider the importance of getting the right size of unit, with smaller units available for smaller rooms.

Thermostats

The right thermostat can be a huge benefit to anyone looking to create a healthier home environment. Smart thermostats are growing in popularity for their ability to proactively maintain the best living conditions, cutting down on humidity and encouraging the ideal air conditions inside the home. They save on energy by reducing unnecessary use of heating and air conditioning, and can even be controlled remotely by use of an app. So even if you’re out at work all day, you can make the house ready for your return at the touch of a button. The right thermostat can maintain perfect humidity levels and reduce airborne particles.

Non-toxic cleaning products

If you like to keep a clean home, then you will probably have a little war chest of items that help you keep the place in ideal condition. It is worth bearing in mind that many of the cleaning products on the market right now can be harmful to both human and pet health if used in significant quantities. Better formulations are being discovered all the time, and for anything that is sprayed onto surfaces, consider options that are kinder to the home’s air quality.

Also look at whether you are using plug-in air fresheners; they spritz chemicals into the air right around the level at which pets and kids are breathing and can be detrimental to the health of smaller children and furry friends. A better choice for fresher air is to add more plants in the home; they naturally improve air quality and can smell much more fresh, too.

A few small adjustments is all it needs to take for your home to be a healthier and happier place; the sooner you implement them the greater the benefits will be. You can still make bigger, broader changes of course, but the longest of journeys starts with a single step. The ideas above are some of the best initial steps you can take.
