Pest Problems Most Likely To Crop Up In Your Home During The Summer

The summer is one the worst seasons for pests. No matter where you are in the world, when the hot air and humidity rolls in, so do the critters who’d like to call your home their own!

That’s something to be on the lookout for as a homeowner, whether you have pets, like to leave the back door open, or have dealt with an infestation before. The earlier you can spot the signs, the less of a pest problem you’ll end up having!

But some pests are a little more common than others, even when the summer sun brings them all out of the woodwork. With that in mind, here are the pest problems that are most likely to crop up in your home as the weather gets warmer.

Termites

If termites get into your home, they’re going to be there all year round. That being said, they can become a lot more active when it’s warm out, and you’re likely to notice the first signs of them only when June rolls around.

The most obvious sign of a termite infestation is a sound coming from within your walls. This is usually described as a ‘clicking’, which often means the termites are munching their way through the material. If you also happen to spot small pellets on the ground, as well as what looks like wings that have been pulled off flies, it’s time to call out termite control and get your home properly fumigated.

Fleas

This is one for all you pet owners out there. Make sure you keep your pets up to date on their flea treatments during the summer months, as this is the most active time of year for these jumpy critters. Fleas can also be incredibly hard to get off of pet fur, and learning how to give your cat or dog a flea bath is essential.

Fleas can quite easily crowd under the hidden sides of furniture, and you’ll need to regularly spray these areas to ensure they can’t quickly reproduce. Make sure you don’t miss a single treatment here – getting rid of fleas is even harder when you have fluffy carpets, soft furnishings, and more than one pet in the house!

Ants

You could turn the lights on one day and find a whole host of ants moving throughout your home – that’s an absolute nightmare for most people! But seeing as the summertime is when they wake up and start foraging for food, you’ll want to keep an eye out for any cracks or holes they can use to get into your home.

If you notice an ant’s nest just outside of your door, there are plenty of homemade methods you can use to destroy it. Be careful when applying these, of course, and think about calling a professional if the problem persists.

Summer is notorious for pest problems. If you notice any signs of pests moving into your home, fight against them as quickly and efficiently as possible.
