Keeping your kids entertained during their summer vacation is hard enough without having to deal with bad weather, too. After all, this can put a stopper on a lot of your plans.
Fortunately, it doesn’t have to bring summertime fun to an end. With that in mind, here are four ways to keep your kids entertained on a rainy day!
1. Visit an entertainment center. Entertainment centers, such as Scene 75, are the perfect spaces to visit on a rainy day. At just $15.99 per person for entry, you can spend the entire day at Scene 75, partaking in activities such as go-karting, mini golf, and bumper cars. Not only that, but you can also play countless arcade games too. There’s truly something for everyone to enjoy here, including big kids (aka, you!).
2. Plan a movie marathon. While you may be trying to limit your kid’s screen time, there’s nothing wrong with the occasional movie marathon. After all, this is a great way to keep them busy when it’s raining outside, and it’s a relatively low-cost way to have fun. This is because the only thing you’ll need to buy is snacks!
If you don’t currently have a subscription to a streaming service, don’t worry. Plenty of platforms offer free trials that you can make use of for your movie day, just remember to cancel it at the end of the trial period if you don’t want to proceed.
3. Encourage them to start reading. There are many benefits of reading during your childhood. For example, it can help your kids to improve their focus and vocabulary, while also tapping into their imagination. It’s also an activity they can enjoy rain or shine!
However, there’s no denying that it can be hard to drum up enthusiasm for reading, with just 1 in 3 8 to 18-year-olds saying they enjoy reading in their free time. However, this often means that they’ve simply not found the right book. Show your children that there’s plenty to enjoy about reading by encouraging them to try out different genres and focusing on what they enjoy, not what they have to read for school.
You could also add an extra incentive by turning it into something of a friendly competition. For exmaple, you could give the person who reads the most pages/books a small prize at the end of each week.
4. Teach them how to bake. Teaching your children how to bake some of their favorite sweet treats is another great rainy day activity that also allows them to develop practical skills. Try to focus on kid or beginner-friendly recipes so that they feel as though they’re really putting in the work themselves!
Final thoughts. Don’t let a few clouds in the sky ruin your chances to have fun this summer. There are plenty of ways to keep your kids entertained without having to spend time outdoors, from visiting an entertainment center to cooking up a storm in the kitchen.
