The Long Island Museum in Stony Brook has a lot of great family events coming up and they are all FREE to attend. We just love the Long Island Museum and encourage you to explore all the great things the museum has to offer, as well. There are three museums (an Art Museum, History Museum and Carriage Museum) on their 9-acre campus. The grounds are beautiful and they have sculptures from different artists outdoors for you to enjoy as you walk the stroller-friendly grounds. The exhibition, Long Island in the ’70s, will be on view at The Long Island Museum’s History Museum, until October 18th. Building on LIM’s previous popular exhibitions of the 1950s and 1960s, the exhibit brings together a unique array of items from this distinct decade — from clothing and paintings to photographs, music, and pop culture objects. We loved the exhibit and highly recommend it.
Free Concert featuring Slingshot
July 22 @ 6:30 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. FREE
Enjoy a special free outdoor concert at the museum featuring Slingshot, the most diverse dance band on Long Island, playing top 40 hits from all eras and genres!
Pack a picnic, chairs, and your dancing shoes to get down on LIM’s beautiful grounds.
The performance will be held on the Art Museum’s lawn. In the event of rain, the concert will be moved indoors to the Carriage Museum.
No registration is required.
This community event is presented in collaboration with the Rotary Club of Three Village.

Ahoy and avast! Adventure Awaits at Summer Family Fun Day at The Long Island Museum, featuring Pirates and Mermaids.
Come dressed in costume for a day of fun, including a stage show by Timeless Tales Entertainment.
When a supernatural shipwreck grounds two rival pirate crews on shore, it’s a race against the clock to find the legendary buried treasure! Will you help the pirates discover the true treasures along the way? Swim on over to the LIM on Family Fun Day for a swashbuckling interactive stage show featuring silly pirates, a mermaid, and a whole lot of nautical nonsense!
Enjoy free entertainment, games, crafts, gallery exploration, and more! Also enter a special raffle, for the chance to win a “Family Fun” prize package containing a family of 4 pizza dinner from O Sole Mio, 4 AMC tickets with snacks, and a Family Membership to The Long Island Museum!

Summer Thursdays & FILM@LIM: Felicity: An American Girl Adventure

LIM and the Port Jefferson Arts Council bring films to our community that touch upon a variety of topics for FREE! Each film screening includes an engaging talk with a guest speaker or a fun activity this month join us as we watch Felicity: An American Girl Adventure (2005)!
Based on the American Girl Doll Series of books, Felicity: An American Girl Adventure is a family-friendly film starring a young Shailene Woodley, which follows Felicity Merriman in this coming-of-age story set against the backdrop of the impending American Revolution.
After the screening, join us for a fun discussion about Revolutionary War-era fashion with Sheila C. Argueta.
Sheila recently graduated summa cum laude from Stony Brook University with a B.A. in History and a minor in Studio Art, earning the university’s Valedictorian Award. Her research interests include material culture, labor history, and historical dress, with a particular focus on how clothing communicates identity and reflects broader social, cultural, and historical change.
