Our 2nd Annual Let ALL The Children Play in May event was amazing. We want to thank all those who came to the event and supported the LATCP Playground and our mission of Inclusion. Whether you came for the day to enjoy the festivities with your family, volunteered your time, were an exhibitor, donated a raffle prize or were a local business sponsor; your efforts helped made for a successful event and WE THANK YOU!
The children had an amazing day with their families. You can feel the happiness through all of these beautiful smiles pictured, below.
Here at Momee Friends, we are so grateful to everyone who has become a part of our growing network. We love discovering all the wonderful things about Long Island, and we especially love connecting you and your family to all that the Island has to offer. One of the greatest compliments we have received has also become a call to action for us – do you have anything for my 10 year old?
With that in mind, we are so excited to present “Discover Long Island with Momee Friends Youth!”
Momee Friends Youth will bring kids (ages 8-12) together in a safe and judgment-free environment where they can express themselves creatively and develop socially. They will take part in weekly team-building activities that will promote RESPECT, ACCEPTANCE, COOPERATION, and COLLABORATION. They will have the opportunity to participate in service projects that will show them how rewarding it is to give back to the community, and they will also be empowered by their own purchasing power by writing reviews of local businesses which we will visit as a group. We want our kids to take pride in who they are and certainly where they come from. We invite any businesses or organizations to join us as Community Mentors by participating or sponsoring the program, giving you an opportunity to have a direct and positive impact on the lives of our youth.
One more week till we hold the 2nd Annual Let ALL the Children Play in May event at the Let All The Children Play Playground (LATCP). This is the second year we are holding this event to support the LATCP playground. Both, LATCP and Momee Friends believe in Inclusion and that children of ALL abilities should have a safe and friendly environment to play. We invite you, your family and friends to join us for a FREE family day at the park with a lot of activities for ALL to enjoy. The event is next Sunday, May 22nd from 11am to 4pm at Field 4 of Eisenhower Park in East Meadow.
Finding activities for the kids to do during the Winter break can be challenging at times, and for kids with special needs, sensory issues, or disabilities, not only is it that more challenging, but the choices are limited. More and more businesses that cater to kids and their families are now offering special sessions for kids with special needs and as appealing as that is for some families, the dilemma they now face is that their kids, who already have a difficult time connecting with other kids, continue to be isolated. However, thanks to organizations like Justice 4 Autism, and Bright Pick Businesses like NY Dart Zone, kids of all ages, stages of development, and abilities are able to take part in recreational activities together.
What a great year it has been for us with the support of our local parents and businesses here on Long Island. We look forward to all that 2016 has in store.
Yesterday, I had the opportunity to attend the LI Gay Pride Parade and Festival, celebrating its 25th Anniversary in Huntington. In 1991, organizers were denied a parade permit by the town, because only traditional parades were allowed on the streets. The LGBT community decided to go to Court and as a result, gained the right to celebrate – fast forward 25 years and the Pride Fest is one of the largest LGBT festivals outside of NYC Gay Pride, attracting thousands of supporters and festival goers.
