Lana Moreno is a 9-year old girl who is making a huge difference in our community. She inspires us with her huge heart and compassion for others. This past Saturday we were part of her Give a Gobble Food Drive and it was a huge success.
Lana all year round collects for local food pantries in our community and you can follow her on her Facebook page- Lana’s World Hunger Dream. She wants to make a difference by feeding those in need. One food pantry that she has a wonderful relationship with is the Lighthouse Mission. This past weekend all of the turkeys and food items she collected went to the Lighthouse mission located in North Bellport.
This summer flew by and we had an amazing summer working with our Discover LI Youth.
I’ve spent the last couple of days reflecting on the amazing work that a handful of families and their awesome children accomplished over the summer with our pilot program, “Discover Long Island with Momee Friends”. Earlier in the year, Anne and I met with our friend, Geriann, to discuss the possibility of working with the “tweens” in our community. What drives them? What interests them? What positive energy can we draw upon to bring them together in fun and meaningful ways?
Our 2nd Annual Let ALL The Children Play in May event was amazing. We want to thank all those who came to the event and supported the LATCP Playground and our mission of Inclusion. Whether you came for the day to enjoy the festivities with your family, volunteered your time, were an exhibitor, donated a raffle prize or were a local business sponsor; your efforts helped made for a successful event and WE THANK YOU!
The children had an amazing day with their families. You can feel the happiness through all of these beautiful smiles pictured, below.
Finding activities for the kids to do during the Winter break can be challenging at times, and for kids with special needs, sensory issues, or disabilities, not only is it that more challenging, but the choices are limited. More and more businesses that cater to kids and their families are now offering special sessions for kids with special needs and as appealing as that is for some families, the dilemma they now face is that their kids, who already have a difficult time connecting with other kids, continue to be isolated. However, thanks to organizations like Justice 4 Autism, and Bright Pick Businesses like NY Dart Zone, kids of all ages, stages of development, and abilities are able to take part in recreational activities together.
NY DART ZONE is the first NERF arena here on Long Island and our Momee Friends are loving it. A local Dad wrote us about the positive experience he had at the NY Dart Zone for a friends birthday party.
“FUN, EXCITING, EXHILARATING and AWESOME” were words used to describe this local business the whole family will enjoy going to.
Not only is it exciting and exhilarating, but they teach great team building skills. Everyone NY Dart Zone was awesome and so accommodating. The boys can’t wait to go back! Even I’m intrigued! “
