Four Cities In The Lone Star State You Really Ought To Spend Some Time In

Texas is a big old state. As the second biggest in the US, it’s easy for people to assume that there’s nothing but desert for a lot of it and, while there certainly is no shortage of gorgeous, arid landscapes, it’s also one of the states with the highest concentration of cities. Whether you live in the Lone Star State or you simply want to make sure that you see the highlights, you can’t leave without checking out the four crowning cities that make it one of the best states in the country.

Houston

If you’re looking for a truly modern sprawl of a city, then Houston is the place to go. It’s a place of fine cuisine, great shopping, and lively nightlife, which makes it a great place for a weekend getaway with friends.  It has some of the true world-class attractions of the state, from the Space Center Houston with its many displays and exhibitions taking you to the far reaches of the galaxy, to the Museum of Fine Arts, where you can indulge your senses in some of the finest works to be found this side of the Atlantic.

Austin

While it may well be the capital of the state, Austin isn’t quite the modern metropolis you might expect of a big city, like Houston. What it is, however, is a lively, artistic, and creative cultural heart, where there’s no shortage of live music venues, cozy bars, and tons of great places to each, whether it’s BBQ joints, food trucks, or otherwise. There’s no shortage of fun activities to do in Austin, whether you’re talking about enjoying the natural beauty of Zilker Park, kayaking over Lady Bird Lake, or checking out the Hope Outdoor Gallery. A must-see for those with a cultured spirit.

San Antonio

If you want to experience all of the charm, hospitality, and warmth that Texas is so often noted for, then you want to visit the historic districts of San Antonio most of all. Gorgeous vintage architecture, rich history and heritage in sites like the Alamo, and the tranquil beauty of the River Walk, with its host of cafes, shops, and vibrant umbrella-lined streets can make it a very romantic spot.

Dallas

While Houston might be where you can find the truly upper-crust experiences of the state, Dallas is the cosmopolitan hub of the city. It’s just as rich in its history, with the Dealey Plaza and Sixth Floor Museum offering a look at the area’s past. The arts district offers a cultural scene that can compete with Austin’s, as well, featuring world-class museums, galleries, and theaters. Add to that some great eating in the form of its world-renowned steak and barbecue scene, and your mouth will be watering to stay in Dallas for just one meal more.

Whether you’re a lover of lively, atmospheric social hubs, dynamic and modern spaces, or good old-fashioned Southern hospitality, the four cities mentioned above have it all in spades. Be sure to take the time to hit up each one.
