Is your garage looking a little tired and old? Well, don’t worry: this guide is here to make it look brand new. We discuss some of the strategies you can use to bring it up to the standards you expect.

Here’s what to do:

Declutter

Your first job is to declutter the whole space, preferably removing all the items first so you can see what you’re working with. Emptying the garage and putting everything into containers and boxes allows you to re-fill the space once you finish renovating

Deep Clean

The next step is to deep clean the garage, removing any residues, grime, or mold. Garages are quite prone to mess and damage because of how we use them, so you might want to arrange for a professional company to come and do the work for you. Deep cleaning usually involves degreasing, power washing, and window cleaning.

Repaint The Walls

Next, repaint the walls. If you have a proper spray paint gun, you can usually get this job done in under an hour.

Ideally, you want to use durable and light colors in the garage. White, creams, and light blues often work best. These change the mood of the room and make it feel fresh and professional instead of dirty and run down.

Change The Flooring

At the same time, it is a good idea to change the flooring. You want to ensure it is strong and durable enough to do everything you need to do.

These days, polyaspartic garage floors are among the most popular. These use a special coating to protect the underlying materials, allowing them to last longer while maintaining a sleek look. You can also use concrete or resin-based finishes, depending on your budget and preferences.

The flooring is one of the most important elements for a garage, so always speak to experts to ensure you’re on the right track. Don’t try to install a floor yourself without exploring your requirements in-depth.

Improve The Lighting

At the same time, you also want to improve the lighting. Many residential garages have a single incandescent bulb hanging from a wire from the ceiling, which isn’t practical or sufficient.

Top garages install LED fixture strips along the walls and ceilings. These provide ample white light from every direction, helping you see what you’re doing better.

Add Professional Storage

We also suggest adding professional storage to your garage for all the decluttered items. Racks and cabinets are great options for heavy tools and parts.

Make sure you purchase garage-specific furniture options. These are more robusts and able to deal with any harsh conditions you throw at them. Most will last a lifetime with the right care.

Insulate Your Garage

Lastly, make sure you insulate and seal your garage. Keeping as much warmth and noise inside is critical for lowering bills and keeping the neighbors happy.

Furthermore, proper insulation makes it more straightforward to use your garage year-round. When you keep the warm inside, it leaves you free to tinker around in the winter, and get into your car more comfortably.
