Long Island Children’s Museum Celebrates October with New Family Experiences, Halloween Fun, Live Theater, and More! 

Sock skating with skeletons, live theater, Ghostly Gala, hands-on programs and a refreshed News 12 studio fill the Museum’s calendar, with October fun sponsored by FourLeaf Federal Credit Union .

October is packed with fun at Long Island Children’s Museum (LICM), where families can discover something new around every corner. Following Fall Fix-Up, the Museum reopens with a month filled with new experiences, Halloween traditions, live theater, art, STEM and hands-on play—with October programming generously sponsored by FourLeaf Federal Credit Union. 

Skating with Skeletons 

October 17 – November 1 | Included with Museum admission. 

Slip on your socks and get ready to skate, rattle and roll! LICM puts a seasonal spin on sock skating with the debut of Skating with Skeletons, a brand-new Halloween experience where families can slip, slide and glide without ice or skates. 

Opening weekend adds even more seasonal fun with Skate, Rattle & Roll and Cutest Pumpkin in the Patch: 

  • Saturday, October 17 | Noon–2 pm
  • Sunday, October 18 | 1–3 pm

A Fresh Look for Communication Station 

Included with Museum admission. 

Young reporters have a newly modernized place to make headlines this fall. Through LICM’s partnership with News12, the broadcast studio within the Museum’s Communication Station exhibit is being refurbished and modernized during Fall Fix-Up. 

The refreshed studio gives children the opportunity to step in front of the camera, take on the role of a television journalist and explore communication and storytelling through imaginative play in an updated broadcast environment. 

Uncle Vlad’s Pumpkin Patch: The Vladuation 

October 17, 25 & 31 | 11 am & 1 pm | $5 with Museum admission ($4 Members), $10 Theater only 

The next episode in LICM Theater’s Halloween tradition takes the stage! Uncle Vlad’s nephew Chad is preparing to graduate from Boo-niversity, but first he must complete his final horror merit badge tests. Uncle Vlad, Gargamel the Rat, Great Aunt Margarine, Johnny Bones and the rest of the spooky crew return to help the pumpkin patch’s youngest bat make the grade. 

Now in its fifth year of Halloween fun, the Uncle Vlad series brings familiar favorites and new kooky and creepy faces together for an all-new seasonal adventure. 

Special Ghostly Gala performances will be offered October 24 at 6:15, 7, 7:45 and 8:30 pm. Tickets for Ghostly Gala are required.  

Ghostly Gala Saturday, October 24 | 6–9 pm | Additional fee required. 

Costumes, crafts, creatures and treats take over LICM after dark during the Museum’s annual Ghostly Gala. Designed with young children in mind, this family-friendly Halloween celebration offers all the excitement of the season in a fun, safe and spooky (but not scary!) setting. 

This year’s celebration also features special performances of “Uncle Vlad’s Pumpkin Patch: The Vladuation” at 6:15, 7, 7:45 and 8:30 pm.

Things get eerily educational as young scientists explore the spooky side of STEM through hands-on experiments and Halloween-inspired discoveries. 

STEM Explorers, powered by Green Teens, is made possible with the support of National Grid.  

Ghost Print 

Sunday, October 25 | 1–3 pm | Included with Museum admission. 

Experiment with printmaking techniques and create a hauntingly creative work of art to take home. 

Spooky Scavenger Hunt 

Saturday, October 31 | 11 am–4 pm | Included with Museum admission. 

Celebrate Halloween by putting your observation skills to the test as you search throughout the Museum for spooky surprises. 

Artist Christie Jones: “Long Island Color Field Study” Pop-Up 

Saturday, October 3 | Noon–2 pm | Included with Museum admission. 

Explore the work of artist Christie Jones during a special pop-up inspired by Long Island’s natural environment and create art of your own. 

Meet Artist Christie Jones: Underwater Ecosystems Workshop 

Saturday, October 10 | 1–2 pm & 3–4 pm | Included with Museum admission. 

Meet artist Christie Jones and explore the connection between art and underwater ecosystems during a special hands-on workshop inspired by her work.

MUSEUM HOURS 

LICM is open Tuesday through Friday from 10 am to 4 pm and Saturday and Sunday from 10 am to 5 pm. The Museum is normally closed Mondays but will be open for a Bonus Monday on October 12 until 5 pm. 

The Museum will be closed Wednesday, October 7 through Friday, October 9.
