We asked our local families what bicycle shops on Long Island they recommend to purchase a bicycle from. We love shopping local and supporting the small businesses in our community. We encourage you to do the same. 

Benefits of shopping at a local bicycle shop over a mass merchant and/ or “discount” department store:

1.  Personalization– They ensure that your bike is the right size and adjusted properly just for you.

2. Finding the right fit– Test rides and follow-up fitting fine-tuning is most likely available. Ask you local store.

3.  Wide Selection– there is more of a variety of bikes, sizes, styles and if they don’t have what you are looking for in the store they can help you find what you need.

4.  Safety– to me this is one of the best reasons to go through a local bicycle store. Bike shop bikes are assembled in-store by experienced mechanics. They are not going to just give you one of the floor models that is already assembled and may not be assembled properly. Before you leave a bike store you can be assured that the bicycle will function properly and will be safe to ride.

5. Post- sale service– Bicycle shops offer post-sale service and adjustments, usually for free or at low cost.

6.  Warranty– Bicycle Shops have their own warranty policies and stand behind their sales. 

7.  Expertise– the bicycle shop owners and staff know bikes and can answer any questions you may have.
