Trinity Columbel is a 9-year-old girl from our community who decided to do something extra special on her 9th birthday, this year.
She decided for her birthday this year to have her friends and family give her donations so she can donate those items to a local animal shelter. Trinity has a huge heart and we want to recognize her efforts to make a difference in our community along with her parents. Her desire to help the Kent Animal Shelter in Calverton has made her our Shining Child of the month.
Since it is #GivingTuesday I wanted to reflect back on what an amazing job a young girl in our community did this month to give back to others this Thanksgiving.
10 year old, Lana Moreno has a heart of gold and held her 2nd annual Give A Gobble Food Drive on Saturday, November 11th at the AMVets Post 48 in Ronkonkoma.
Lana Moreno started Lana’s World Hunger Dream at 8 years old in August of 2015 because she wanted to help people in need of food on Long Island. Lana has been collecting donations, shopping for food, donating items, running food drives and participating in community events for the past 2+ years. Last year the “Give a Gobble Food Drive” was a huge success and 117 Turkeys and trimmings were collected to donate to the Lighthouse Mission of Bellport. Lana was so grateful and excited with that number but, we knew she could top it and SHE DID!

Cara’s love for animals and compassion for others is why she is our Shining Child of the month.
Meet nine-year old, Cara Scaduto. Cara is very artistically talented and she puts that talent to great use. She is making a difference with her artistic talent in our community in big ways. Whether her art is helping animals who need to be adopted or to raise money and collect food for a local Long Island food pantry, her efforts have not gone unnoticed.
Looking to make a difference this holiday season? There are ways you can make a difference or even donate your time to a wonderful non-profit on Long Island, HELP Suffolk.
HELP Suffolk is a temporary housing facility located in Bellport, NY. At HELP, we provide housing for 76 homeless families from across Suffolk County. We have about 300 people living on-site on any given day, most of them children. While a family is living at HELP we offer services including case management, employment assistance, GED, child care, housing assistance, we have an RN on-site in our medical office and a full recreation program. We try to offer as much assistance as we can to the families at our shelter, while they are struggling with many of life’s obstacles.

Lana all year round collects for local food pantries in our community and you can follow her on her Facebook page- Lana’s World Hunger Dream. She wants to make a difference by feeding those in need. One food pantry that she has a wonderful relationship with is the Lighthouse Mission. This past weekend all of the turkeys and food items she collected went to the Lighthouse mission located in North Bellport.
