The Fin-tastic Cleanup

We are loving this book, The Fin-Tastic Cleanup by local Long Island Author and Mom, Laura Mancuso. This is the author’s first book and not only did she want to bring joy to the children who read her book but, to also make them aware of our waters and what we can do to preserve them.

My girls and I really enjoyed reading this story because it encourages others to do their part and help keep litter off our beaches and out of the water where it can have a negative environmental impact on the water and the animals that live in and around the water. We love our Long Island beaches and we will be bringing gloves and trash bags next time we go to clean up any garbage we see and dispose of it properly.

“Three mermaids jump into action when they learn that pollution is hurting their friends and ruining their quaint coral village. With the help of some new friends, they learn a lot about ways to keep the ocean clean!”

The book talks about teamwork and how we can make a difference if we all work together. In the back of the book there is a list of resources if you and your family want to volunteer and help nationally or locally.

This is a wonderful edition to Mascot Books and we encourage you to purchase this book for your home or classroom from local Long Island Author, Laura Mancuso.

About the Author:

Laura Mancuso grew up loving the beach and marine biology in St. James, New York. After graduating from the University of Buffalo, she continued to live and work in Buffalo with her husband. However, she missed the ocean, her friends, and her family, so she moved back to Long Island. Inspired by her daughters, Laura decided to start writing children’s books. She wanted to bring joy to reading for young kids, but hoped to draw awareness to our waters and what we can do to preserve them.

This is Laura’s first book. She currently resides in Hampton Bays, where you can find her with her family at one of its many beautiful beaches.

About the Illustrator:

Jenna Guidi grew up on Long Island and studied illustration and animation at the School of Visual Arts in New York City. She has loved Disney and Pixar films since she was young, which sparked her lifelong interest in art. When she is not drawing, she is usually reading, baking, and drinking tea. Traveling has given her a greater appreciation of the earth, and she believes we must do the best we can to take care of our planet and each other.
