Shining Child- Lana Moreno

Meet our Shining Child for the month of February, Lana Moreno. Lana is an eight-year-old girl with a large amount of passion and dedication in helping those in need.

Lana is a 3rd grader at Lynwood Ave. Elementary School in the Sachem School District. She prides herself in being a leader using the leadership qualities she has learned in school and at home.

In August 2015 she had an idea to set up Lana’s World Hunger Dream. She was upset to think that there were people who did not have food to eat. She started a campaign online with t-shirts and with the money she raised, Lana shopped for food that local pantries were in need for.

She had made several donations to the Lighthouse Mission in Bellport, and has supplied holiday Food boxes for families in the school district. She has recently held a Zumbathon fundraiser at her elementary school to replenish the Sachem East High School Pantry so local families would be able to get food if in need.

Lana continues to look for ways to help others and looks forward to get next food donations. She has been a huge inspiration to her family, friends, classmates and school. As you can see by the letter below even her principal wrote Lana for being a leader in their school and community.

All we have to see is, “WOW”. Lana may be eight years old but she is making a huge difference and proving that at any age we can make an impact for the greater good. We thank you for inspiring others in the community and we want you to know you also have the support of us, here at Momee Friends of Long Island. Congratulations for being our Shining Child for the month of February. You truly do Shine, Lana! Also, thank you Victoria Moreno for sharing your incredible daughter’s story with us. Sharing Lana’s World Hunger Dream story will definitely encourage others to donate to our local food pantries who desperately need food donations and monetary donations to help our local community.
