What kid ( or adult ) would not want to be a superhero for a day?
Make your own capes out of an old t-shirt! It is so easy to do…
I saw this DIY tutorial on http://thesoutherninstitute.com/2011/03/diy-superhero-cape-tutorial.html/ and I loved it…
Mia is still a little young to get the whole superhero concept. But, if you go to this site they even show how to make the superhero cuffs : )
I made the cape by using:
a childrens XL t -shirt I bought from the craft store or an adult X-Large tee shirt
colored felt ( to make the superhero logo)
Hot glue gun
Scissors
Just like you will see on the other tutorial from the southern institute; I cut up the shirt to make the cape
Then I cut out the shape I wanted to hot glue onto the cape (shown below)
and then it was time to spring into superhero action…
SAFETY TIP:
*** You will see on the tutorial I got this idea from if you just cut the collar of the shirt in half you can add Velcro to each side to make an easy open and close option for the capes. With younger kids anything around their neck can be a choking hazard so this would be a great idea to add to the cape for kids of a younger age!***
Now, make the super hero cuffs to make your DIY Superhero outfit complete!
Superhero Cuffs
You will need:
sleeves from the tee-shirt , Velcro, scissors and hot glue gun
Directions:
Cut the Sleeve leaving the straighter half for your superhero cuff. See how much you will need by wrapping the tee shirt sleeve around your arm (stitch line part down by your wrist).
Then, cut your Velcro the length of the cuff. And hot glue one piece of the Velcro onto one side.
On the opposite side of the cuff hot glue the other half of the Velcro on the material. (shown below)
So when you wrap it around your wrist and lower part of your arm they fit together.
Wrap the cuff around the wrist and you are ready be your own superhero.
EYE MASK
**** You can also make an eye mask using more of the left over tee shirt sleeve material ****
The material on the left will be the perfect amount to be the eye mask.
Open it up
Cut out the holes for the eyes
Cut the excess material off on the bottom and your eye mask is complete!
