My favorite Holiday Cookie is the Italian Knot cookies I decided to make these yummy cookies for Valentine’s Day by making them into the shapes of hearts instead of bows. There is numerous ways to make these and they are called different names. I love when they have a lemon flavor to them. Some people make them taste like almond and some will make them have an orange flavor.
I got the recipe for my favorite Italian Cookie from Cooks.com. They have the best recipe in my opinion.

COOKIE MIX:

Mia loved making cookies with her Pa-Pa!
My three-year old loves making a mess with the flour. You will continue to add flour until the dough is perfect.
Roll dough and then make them into the shapes of hearts.
Bake on greased cookie sheets in a 400 degree oven for 15 minutes. Makes 6 dozen.
While the cookies are baking make the Icing by following the directions below.
LEMON ICING:
1/4 c. butter
1 lb. powdered sugar
Juice of 2 lemons
1 lb. powdered sugar
Juice of 2 lemons
Cream butter. Add remaining ingredients. Stir until well blended. If too thin add more sugar; too thick add more lemon juice.
Once the cookies are cool it is time to add the icing and sprinkles to them. Mia loved this part the most because making a mess is so much more fun.
Pour the icing over the cookies.
Add your favorite Valentine Sprinkles!
I put down wax paper to catch the icing and sprinkles. However, nothing stops little sprinkles from getting EVERYWHERE. So make sure to have your vacuum and broom nearby.
Your cookies are complete… I hope you love your Italian Heart Lemon Cookies as much as my family does!
From my Momee kitchen to yours… Enjoy!
