While we may have been experiencing an unusually string of warm weather here on Long Island, it has not stopped some of us from playing with snow – fake snow that is!

A Big THANKS to our friends at the Montessori Children’s Academy for having Momee Friends share an interactive reading of The Mitten, by Jan Brett.

The Mitten is a beautifully illustrated children’s book based on a Ukranian folktale about a boy named Nicki who accidently loses his mitten in the snow.  The mitten becomes a snuggly place for woodland animals seeking warmth.  One by one they crawl, lumber and swoop in – some as tiny as meadow mouse all the way up to giant bear!

Our little friends at the Montessori Children’s Academy enjoyed reenacting scenes from the story, pretending to jump into a mitten just as the animals did, and then decorating their own mittens that would not get lost in the snow. And then of course, they had fun finding the animals from the story in some fake snow, which was a great sensory activity.

We sent each child home with a snowball to play with and recipe. See the recipe —> here

THANK YOU everyone for a great morning. The staff and kids at the Montessori Children’s Academy are fantastic!

We can’t wait for our next in-house field trip with the Montessori Children’s Academy, and we look forward to sharing another interactive story time with everyone on Wednesday, January 9th at the Sweetbriar Nature Center!

I’m Anne

I love to write about all things Long Island and family. I was born and raised here and as a local, I want to share all the great things I have loved about living here since I was a child. Our community is filled with great people, amazing local businesses, beautiful nature sites, scenic beaches, craveable restaurants and so much more. My husband and I knew when we had our first child that I would become a stay-at-home mom. Thanks to my love for sharing all the things I love about Long Island, my blog was created in 2013.

We are dedicated to linking families and businesses together for the benefit of all.
I hope you enjoy all that Momee Friends offers whether it is a smile, craft, recipe, friendly advice, or an event for your family to attend together in a safe and creative environment.

I hope you enjoy my blog and find it informative! Please feel free to comment and share your experiences with all your fellow Momee Friends! I want this blog to be for all of us and I want it to be an enjoyable site that you absolutely love to visit!
