I had the pleasure of visiting the Lake Grove location where the staff was super friendly and accommodating. The general Manager, Derek Guzman was super friendly and made sure our experience was enjoyable. Derek took pride in explaining how Applebee’s has revamped their menu and how much love and preparation goes into making the guest dining experience at Applebee’s a priority. Alex our server was very knowledgable of the new Wood-Fired Grill menu and was excited to make her recommendations of her favorite new items. She recommended the Steak Quesadilla and it was delicious. It was so good that my two-year old was loving the cheesiness of each bite with the addition of tender steak and veggies inside. Yes, she ate a quesadilla with more than just the cheese. SCORE!
KIDS MENU
When you go out with your little ones you want to have a drink right away and place their order promptly and Alex did an amazing job at making sure the girls were all set so that Mommy and Daddy could enjoy their meal, too. The kids menu had great choices all around for kids to pick from. The “pickiest” of eaters will have something they will enjoy off the kids menu. I know first hand because my four-year old is one of the pickiest eaters.
WOOD-FIRE GRILL ITEMS
My husband and I tried two of the new entrees. Whenever we go out to eat we always get two different entrees and sides so we can divide everything up for an awesome meal of a little bit of this and a little bit of that. I have to give Derek credit for helping us select these delicious new items and he paired the sides perfectly with each entree.
Entree #1: 8 oz. Top Sirloin
with 4 Cheese Mac and Cheese and Fire-Grilled Veggies
You tasted the wood fire smoke on this tender sirloin steak. The Fire-Grilled veggies really stood out on this plate. I love veggies but the wood fire smoke flavor on these veggies brought out a flavor that is crave-able. I honestly enjoyed the fresh cut veggies so much and once you try them you are going to wish you had a wood fire grill to prepare your meals each night just like this dish was prepared. The mac and cheese was perfectly cheesy and topped with bacon. Who doesn’t love bacon? Overall, a must-try for a Kansas City flavored dish right here on Long Island for you to enjoy.
Entree #2: Bone-in Pork Chop with Honey Apple Chutney
with Maple Pecan Mashed Sweet Potatoes and Garlicky Green Beans
Pork Chops go perfectly with Apple Sauce (and it is one of my favorite combinations). Applebee’s has elevated my favorite dinner combination with their perfectly sweetened Apple Chutney and the Garlicky Green Beans were perfectly cooked. But, let’s talk about these Maple Pecan Mashed Sweet Potatoes for a moment. You know when you try to leave your favorite part of the meal for the last bite? Well, the sweet potato mash is addicting and perfectly made. There is not one thing I would change about it except I would order it for dessert , too. The pecans and maple butter were a great addition. As sweet as this dish sounds it is not overpoweringly sweet and I highly recommend trying the Bone-in Pork Chop with these two sides.
Dining out with your family can be challenging. Are the kids going to act out? Are they going to enjoy the menu items? I have to say that Applebee’s has done a wonderful job of making sure that the family dining experience is something that is enjoyable.
The are keeping our kids entertained at the table, too. Did you know Applebee’s has these awesome table side tablets that allow you to order an appetizer or dessert as soon as you sit down? The tablets also features games for kids of all ages. The cost is an additional $1.99 for unlimited game play that will be added to your check, automatically with a click of a button.
