It is that time of year when the kids are heading back to school and it can be very expensive for families to pick up all the supplies that are needed. Project Backpack of Long Island is collecting new school supplies and backpacks for children affected by domestic violence and they can use your donations. See how you can help…
Corrin Paul is a mother and social worker who has a heart of gold. She started this community give back program 5 years ago and each year her collection of backpacks and school supplies are growing in number but it is not enough. About 1 to 2 children in each classroom is considered a child of poverty. There is an overwhelming number of children on Long Island who need school supplies and backpacks for the first day of school and their parents/ caregivers find it difficult financially to supply them with all that is needed.
Corrin is collecting the donated funds and items for the benefit of the children of VIBS Family Violence and Rape Crisis Center. Many of the children leave their homes without warning. The mission is to supply those children with the supplies they need.
If you are looking to donate you can either contact Corrin and she has lists for you to buy a whole filled backpack for a specific child or you can donate any new supplies of the following items:
Backpacks, Lunch bags, #2 pencils with erasers, scissors (fiskars if possible), large or small glue sticks, marble notebooks, 2 pocket folders, sturdy plastic pocket folders, black, thin dry erase markers, pencil erasers, or package of cap erasers, zippered pencil-case, 3 ring binders, thin markers, colored pencils, highlighters, red and blue erasable pens, index cards (3×5 and 4×6), mini staplers with refills.
All of these items donated should be brand new. However, one item they accept because they are so expensive that have been used are the scientific calculators.
