Raise your hand if you are struggling through bedtime this week?! I love the longer days, but this week has me questioning whether that love is enough…Sloane has been waking up at her normal time, which I thought would mean she would be going to sleep on schedule, boy was I wrong! Bedtime has been a fight involving lots of tears and hysterics. So, after about a week of these stressful nights, this mama needs to recharge.
So often when we think about health we think in terms of nutrition and exercise, but equally, if not more important is our mental and emotional well-being. As moms it is so easy to make this, our mental health, a low priority on the long list of people and things we take care of. However, as the saying goes “you can’t pour from an empty cup”.
Tonight I’m taking a little time to relax and recharge. Sure, there are plenty of things I could do around the house: laundry, straighten up, get ready for tomorrow’s company, but all of those things can be done after I show myself a little self-love and care (and if these things don’t get done, that’s okay too).
There are so many great ways to recharge: yoga, meditation, a glass of wine, reading a good book, a face mask, a foot soak, you get the idea. Tonight I am going with the last 3 (if I wasn’t pregnant, wine would also be on the agenda). These are things that I have found make me feel like I am pampering myself, really taking care of myself in a relaxing and enjoyable way.
Whatever you enjoy doing, take some time to do it for you. You might feel guilty at first, thinking about other things you could be doing with your time, but taking this little bit of time to refill your cup will make you a better wife, mom, daughter, sister, friend <3.
