Young children learn and absorb the world around them using all of their senses.  So it’s important for us to provide them with opportunities and a rich sensory environment that will stimulate the senses and strengthen neural pathways important for all types of learning.

Here’s a simple sensory activity that also serves as a great stress buster:

Sensory play can be calming to children and can help them work through those big emotions like anxiety and frustration.  Play Doh requires pressure and manipulation, which is a good way to release physical energy and tension.   For many of us, especially parents, stress is a normal part of our everyday world. But when we think of stress and stress management, we don’t typically associate the same with childhood. Instead, we prefer to think that children are carefree, and for the most part, happy.  Children in fact are exposed to stressful situations on a daily basis just as much as adults, and the sensory beings that they are, will sense your tension and uneasiness when you are stressed.   Wacky Sacks encourage and support language development – matching words and facial expressions to emotions, and can be used as a great tool to help children talk about their feelings.

Squeeze, mold, throw and play! Honor your children’s preferences and more importantly, have fun!
