Caleb Smith State Park Preserve- Nature Quest

Last Sunday, one of our local Momees, Jen headed out with her family to Caleb Smith State Park Preserve for one of their programs. Their program was called Nature Quest (a scavenger hunt) and everyone had such great time on the beautiful walking trails and grounds.

“Nestled in the heart of Smithtown, Caleb Smith State Park Preserve is one of only two state nature preserves on Long Island. Within its 543 acres are a variety of habitats offering guests picturesque views that change with the seasons. Caleb Smith is a passive use park. This not only helps protect the local plant and wildlife populations but also allows visitors to escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life and enjoy the quiet serenity that can only be found in nature.”

When Jen and her family arrived they were greeted by a friendly Ranger of the park, Ranger Linda. She was seated at the beginning of the Nature Quest and if you had any questions you could come back anytime. The kids were handed their clipboards and were excited to look for everything on their lists.

Jen and her husband John thought the hunt was so clever and exciting for the kids. The kids were laughing all throughout the scavenger hunt because not only were they having a great time the items were hysterical. For instance, her son came across the two butterflies on the list. As seen in the picture below it was a box of butter with paper wings attached. Super cute, right?

It was a great Sunday morning at Caleb Smith State Park. Jen has been to their programs before and highly recommended going to the park for their programs. I know I can not wait to take my girls and I will definitely be there soon.
